Shutting down your PC at night is usually a very routine task that you are probably used to and don't think about too much. But most people have run into the situation of downloading large files or doing computer maintenance tasks late into the night.
You can either leave your computer on all night or cancel the task at hand and shut down the PC manually and then finish the downloading the next day. But that would probably mean having to start the download or task all over from the beginning again.
The Auto Shut Down PC gadget shuts down your PC automatically after a set number of hours (from 1 to 24) in the future. So you simply have to guess how many more hours your PC needs to complete a certain task (usually this can be done by viewing the download dialog where it gives an estimate of the time needed to finish the task) and then set the shut down timer to shut your PC off automatically at that future time.
The advantages of the auto shut down pc timer are:

I want to tell you about a new little software gadget that I have had for about 2 weeks now. Needless to say it is probably one of the most useful little software gadgets I have on my entire pc and it is so simple!
Isn’t it funny how sometimes the most useful gadgets are the ones that are the most simple?! Well it is true and this little one is no exception.
I think you already know by know what this little gadget does. It shuts down your computer automatically at a specified time you select! All you have to do is download it to your desktop, extract it and then double click on the little red icon that you see in this post. Then that little window will pop up to the right. Then you select the time you want to shut down your computer and hit the ‘schedule shutdown’ button. And bingo! Your computer will shut down at that time.
Why is this useful?
Well I like it a lot because there are many times late at night when I am working on stuff on my computer or doing some tasks and then I get so tired and I don’t want to wait for the tasks to finish and I do not want to leave my computer on all night when I go to bed.
For example many times I will start a full system virus scan or download all my latest stock quotes or defragment the hard drive. All of these tasks can sometimes take betweeen 1 or 2 hours and I would rather not sit waiting around for them! So I just select an auto shut down time when I think my computer should be done and then I go to sleep!
When I wake up in the morning I am happy to see my computer is off and it got the work done from the previous night.
