Sneaky gadgets are the kind that fit in small places, and have special features that make them not so obvious to the casual observer.

GPS Global Asset Tracker Gadget

Got a shiny new BMW and can’t sleep at night always worrying if someone might scoop it up and take it away to a distant land?

Or maybe that million dollar stradivarius violin you bought last week needs a permanent security solution.

Have no fear because the GPS global asset tracker is here! (hey that rhymes :)

This is a handheld GPS tracker that lasts up to 3 years in stand by mode with no recurring fees.

It is small enough to hide in your BMW or even inside your stradivarius violin (although that might change how it sounds) so that when someone with bad intentions decides to steal it you can rest assured that it can be located anywhere in the world.

This GPS gadget is interesting, but clearly you would need to have some really valuable items to get any meaningful use out of it.

Self Defense Pepper Spray Stun Ring

Saturday 18th of July 2009 08:09:07 PM

The next time you see a very attractive woman at the mall or somewhere else and contemplate walking up to her and asking her out you might want to have a look at her ring finger and see if you see a ring that looks similar to the ones here pictured to the left.

They are not just for women actually. Anyone can wear these rings.  Inside the ring is hidden the strongest pepper spray formula available.  It has the highest heat rating of 2 million SHU’s (jalapeno pepper has 5000 SHU’s) which severely affects the mucous membranes, eyes and respiratory systems.

This is not permanent injury but enough to disorient an attacker for enough time to get away.  The ring has an effective range of 12 inches.

Here is how it works. You put this ring on your index finger and then make a fist and press that little button on the side of the ring to release the pepper spray.

Spy Necktie with Hidden Camera Gadget

Wednesday 15th of July 2009 09:44:33 PM

necktiecamera

I don’t know what it is lately with my obsession (or your obsession?) with spy gadgets right now.  But we are on a role here at gadgetgnome dot come.

Here is a necktie with a spy camera in it in the form of a pinhole.  The camera has a remote control that works from a max distance of 10 meters.

It has 4 GB of memory for up to 4 hours of recording time and charged by USB interface.  The video resolution is 352×288 pixels.

Now of all the spy gadgets I have covered so far I would have to say that this necktie spy camera gadget may be one of the most sneaky types of gadgets I have seen.

I would say that this spy necktie and the slim video pen may be the most effective at capturing spy video.  Why? Well because the tie is just a normal business type attire and the pen also can be put in the shirt pocket and both would be able to give you almost eye level type video recording!

The spy sunglasses are also good but probably not good for spying in more formal situations and indoors because obviously not too many people keep their sunglasses on indoors all the time so people may become suspicious.  But heck the necktie and the slim video pen spy camera are A1 in my book!

USB Spy Sunglasses Gadget

 spyglasses

Gosh, I don’t know what it is about spy gadgets that have me in such a big excitement lately.  I guess it is such an intriguing thought to be able to capture on camera events and people who do NOT know they are being filmed.  After all that is the BEST type of video content there is right? The kind when people do not know they are being filmed. Just think of the possibilities!  Where are you going on your next vacation? Well you better bring a pair of these along, imagine all the neat things you can capture on camera without others knowing.

When people KNOW they are being filmed they tend to act VERY differently and their behavior can change quite a bit.  I remember this from one of my industrial engineering classes I took some time ago. It is called the Hawthorne Effect (can you believe they studied this stuff?) and they have studied it with respect to working and manufacturing situations so that workers can be more productive.

Speaking of which, I used to work at a window blind company in the manufacturing capacity. What a HORRIBLE job that was by the way. My boss was from Iraq if you can believe that and they were slave drivers in that place!  I had to make cellular window shades and they wanted me to make about 20 of them per day.  I know it doesn’t sound like a lot but there are a lot of parts to those things and it takes forever to make them and make them complete. So the reason I bring it up is because my boss there always watched me and visited with me. He was probably trying to apply the Hawthorne Effect. Anyway sorry I didn’t mean for this to turn into a rant!

These USB sunglasses have a 1.3 mega pixel camera, 8GB of internal memory and video resolution of 640×480 with AVI video format.  They are charged via USB and come with a 6 month warranty.

Slim Video Pen

Tuesday 14th of July 2009 07:39:09 PM

videopenWho would have thought?  That you can include a tiny little video camera INSIDE a pen.

Well it is true and this one lets you record up to 7.5 hours of video at a time and sound as well.  Just press the top of the pen to start recording.

It has 2 gigabyte of internal memory, 736×576 video resolution and an internal rechargeable battery via USB.

Ohhhhh the possibilities.  Just put this one in your shirt pocket and do your thing, your daily business and who knows what you might capture on video.

This is just such a sneaky gadget! But is it the sneakiest?  I am not so sure. It is in the sense that it could remain pretty close to eye level when doing the filming.  But wait a second, from the photo above it appears as though the camera lens is on the same side as where the clip is.  So if it is in your shirt pocket the camera will be facing you?! I am not sure why they set it up that way.  It would be a lot better if the camera did the recording on the opposite side of the clip so that if it clipped into your shirt pocket you could record lots of things at eye level, or slightly below eye level !! (hmm I wonder what that might be :) )

Record Phone Calls with Magic Jack

Tuesday 14th of July 2009 04:41:38 PM

magicJackrecordercontrolIn my previous post I wrote about that neat little sony digital flash memory recorder device I just got and how much fun I had using it as a ‘to do’ list device.

But there is another little sneaky way you can use that digital voice recorder if you combine it with your telephone system.

You do not have to have magic jack to be able to record telephone calls.  The radio shack recorder control pictured above will record phone conversations from your land line as well. By the way, keep in mind that some states have laws that restrict when and when you cannot record phone conversations without the other persons consent.

Anyway, here is how you record phone conversations with Magic Jack.  Simply plug your magic jack into your computer.  Then connect the phone cable from the Radio Shack recorder control into your magic jack.  Then connect your home phone line into the recorder control.  Then plug in the fatter microphone cable from the Radio Shack recorder control into the microphone jack of your sony digital recorder (or other digital flash recorder device).

Then all you have to do is be sure the radio shack recorder control is set to ‘record’ and be sure your digital recorder is set to record, then start talking and it will record the phone conversation. The quality is pretty good from my experience. Have fun!
