Choosing the Ideal Gadget GiftThe most ideal gadget gift is probably a lot easier said than actually done. There is probably a gadget gift for every occassion but fitting the gadget to a person's individual interests and likes is a different matter. One key factor is determining a person's likes and dislikes as well as their level of sophistication or quality expectation.
I get a lot of people asking me what the best possible gadget to get for someone’s birthday or Christmas present could be, but the answer is always the same: it depends on the person. People don’t always realise that person A and person B will like, need and use different gadgets in their day-to-day lives, and I thought I’d give you a few quick tips on tracking down the ideal gadget based on their interests. First off, a lot of gadgets I see being given are DIY based, but ask yourself this – are they really going to use them? DIY gadgets can be somewhat pricey, and if they’re always doing DIY, from painting the walls to putting a new O2 broadband line in, then it’s worth the investment. But if it’s still lying there untouched four weeks later, then get them something with a less hard-working purpose. Secondly, think about whether or not they’re a fun kind of person – a lot of gadgets are designed with the end user getting some form of entertainment value out of them, so it’s always worth trying to establish what they enjoy. If they’re often found doing Sudoku or playing Scrabble, perhaps an LCD Rubik’s Cube could be the perfect gift? Match gifts to their tastes, not what they talk about doing in the future (putting a shelf up, etc). Handyman gadgets are perfect for anyone. There’s a fantastic multi-tool on the market at the moment called a Kevlin, and it’s a screwdriver, hammer, flashlight and tape-measure all in one; you’ll need to use it from time to time, and rather than fumbling around endlessly in the attic to find your toolbox, you can keep this downstairs (as it looks very stylish with its robust plastic casing) and use it when you need to. Last of all, don’t worry too much – there are catch-all gadgets which will work for most people – the Kelvin’s a great example, but things like a Robotic Arm Kit are bound to keep the gift recipient fascinated and feeling very handy and accomplished without you having to worry about whether or not they want to start working on their new bookcase just yet! Good luck, and I hope you find the perfect gadget gift.
