This is a superb gadget for seniors!  It is called the captel phone and it does one simple thing and does it really well. It automatically transcribes the other parties words in your phone conversations into written text as you see in the display image to the left.

This is a great little gadget for seniors who are hard of hearing and need to be able to confirm that the words they are hearing are actually the words that were spoken.

But is it just for seniors or those that are hard of hearing?

Not necessarily. To be honest I would not mind having one of these myself just to be able to see what someone is saying, especially if it is a very important conversation.  I don’t know if this is just me or not, but often times I find myself asking various people I talk to repeat themselves, especially if they are repeating a sequence of numbers or other facts that are lengthy.  So instead of me seeming ‘slow’ or suffering from low IQ syndrome, I could just make note of what they said on my captel phone!
